Fresh Air for Colorado Casinos

The Colorado House is trying to pass a bill banning smoking in all of the states casinos.

Last year Colorado passed the Colorado Clean Indoor Air Act, which made it illegal to smoke inside any public buildings like restaurants and bars, but a special wafer was given to the state casinos just like it was once handed to state casinos out of fear of lost revenues to the state if those playing at casinos go out of state or visit cyber casinos to do their gambling.

But the house is working on bill 1269 which will remove the casinos exempt status and force them to comply and become 100 percent smoke free casinos.

Many of the casinos gamblers both smokers and non smokers agreed that the casinos would be a more enjoyable place without all the smoke. Even smokes said that the second hand smoke in the casinos even with the doors open can be a bit much at times.

Casino operators are against the bill saying that they risk loosing as much as 30 percent of their revenue to casinos out of Colorado that allow smoking.

Casino employees are in favor of the idea, saying that they would enjoy going home at night and not having their clothes reek of smoke all the time.

The bill is expected to pass the house but may be defeated in the Senate.
