The Pennsylvania gaming board is going to award licenses today for two slot machine casinos to be built in the city. These casinos will make Philadelphia the largest city in the United States with casinos. It will also but legalized gambling 2 miles away from Independence hall, where our founding fathers decided to gamble on our own nation.
The opening of the slots casinos marks the spread of legalized gambling in the North East. New Jersey, New York and Connecticut already have legalized casino gambling, Delaware has slots machines at the racetracks and the new Governor of Maryland wants to do the same.
Philadelphia was first settled by Quakers who’s religious believes do not allow gambling of any type, and are not expected to give the casino a warm welcome to the city.
There are 5 companies trying to outbid the others for the two licenses, some of the larges casino developers along with the owner of two of the local papers are hoping to be the ones to develop the new casinos.
4 of the recommendation have the casinos built on the shore of the Delaware and one of them built across town closer to the richer neighborhoods.
