Republican Lawmaker pushes for Legalized Gambling

Lone South Carolina Republican Lawmaker is attempting to pass a law allowing Home Poker games.

Current South Carolina Laws forbid any games of chance to be played for money, but one lawmaker wants to change the law to allow people to have friendly poker games in their homes.

The law forbidding this is over 200 years and bans all games of cards and dice games, so technically even monopoly is illegal in South Carolina.

The Republican State Lawmaker decided to take action after a house was raided because of a poker game and the host a 28 year old male was fined almost $800 for operating an illegal gambling establishment.

Several other were arrested at the poker game, but they are insisting on a trial with a jury to attempt to show how old an outdated the states gambling laws are.

"The goal for the new law is to allow people to gather at someone's home and play some cards and have fun with friends and is in no way an attempt to get casino gambling legalized in South Carolina." said the republican lawmaker.

The bill is still in the early stages and would be part of an attempt to bring the 200 year old laws up to a more modern time according to the lawmaker who also added %u201CI know this bill is going to be tough to pass, especially past many of my republican peers, but I feel it is the right move.%u201D
